Daniel Canogar
Alfa Arte is proud to have contributed to the metalwork fabrication and construction of Vértice, a monumental sculpture by Daniel Canogar installed on Juan Bravo Street in Madrid, in front of the headquarters of the Madrid Press Association (APM). Commissioned by the City of Madrid, the work pays tribute to the 15 Spanish journalists killed in the exercise of their profession since the advent of democracy.
Standing six metres tall and one metre wide, Vértice is a slightly tilted luminous prism combining a metal structure, glass panels and an LED screen displaying generative chromatic animations. A custom algorithm projects the names of the honoured journalists interwoven with fragments of their writing, making it a living monument in constant transformation.
Canogar conceived light as a metaphor for the clarity that journalism strives to bring: “The journalist illuminates the chaotic darkness of the world to give it meaning.” Vértice is also designed to incorporate new names in the future, a reminder that the fight for press freedom remains as urgent as ever.
