DYNAMO

Spain Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

Dynamo (2021) is a landmark interactive installation by Daniel Canogar, created for the Spanish Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. Suspended in the atrium, the work is composed of three interlocking LED loops situated beneath a spiralling walkway, offering shifting perspectives to viewers from all sides.

Visitors activate the piece by placing their hands beneath sensors along the handrail. This gesture triggers animated sparks that travel across the LED ribbons; the more people engage, the more powerful the sound and light experience becomes. The result mimics an electromagnetic dynamo—building intensity collectively before returning to a meditative pulse.

Developed in collaboration with sound artist Francisco López, Dynamo transforms passive viewing into active participation. The installation channels themes of energy flow, community, and the blurred boundaries between digital systems and organic interaction.

Measuring approximately 9 × 5 × 5.6 metres, the piece combines custom-built LED structures, generative software, and responsive sound design, offering an immersive, poetic encounter with the concept of shared energy.
