GROWTH I

Centro Botin, Santander

Growth I (2018) by Cristina Iglesias is a striking sculptural installation prominently displayed at Centro Botín in Santander. Standing at 294 × 330 × 310 cm, the work is composed of cast aluminum and solid pigmented glass. Its organic, root-like forms envelop crystalline glass masses, creating a dialogue between metal, light, and colour .

Executed with precision aluminium casting techniques and careful integration of glass elements, the sculpture exemplifies complex material interplay. As light filters through the pigmented glass, it casts subtle reflections and hues onto the surrounding space, transforming the environment into a sensory continuum of growth and transformation .

Cristina Iglesias (b. 1956, San Sebastián) combines architectural understanding with natural forms, merging industrial materials and site-specific concepts. Her career—marked by major public commissions and international exhibitions—includes projects at renowned venues such as the Royal Academy in London and Bloomberg HQ in London. With Growth I, she reconfigures the relationship between artificial enclosure and organic emergence, reinforcing her sculptural language of immersive, interstitial spaces.
