Cristina Iglesias
ENTWINED GROWTH VI
Galeria Elba Benitez, Madrid, Spain
Entwined Growth VI is a striking sculptural installation by Cristina Iglesias, exhibited at Galería Elba Benítez in Madrid. This work belongs to a series in which Iglesias explores the dynamic interplay between nature and architecture through intricate material contrasts and spatial tension.
The piece consists of interwoven, root-like structures cast in aluminium that envelop and intertwine with blocks of solid pigmented glass. Measuring 294 × 330 × 310 cm, it evokes both subterranean growth and architectural remnants, creating a landscape of emergence and entanglement.
The sculpture masterfully combines high-precision aluminium casting with the refined integration of coloured glass. As light passes through the translucent material, it casts nuanced reflections and shadows that shift with the viewer’s position—transforming the surrounding space into a sensory theatre of light, growth, and transformation.
Cristina Iglesias (San Sebastián, 1956) is known for her ability to articulate the organic through architectural forms. Her work often responds to specific contexts, combining industrial materials with poetic interpretations of nature. With Entwined Growth VI, she reimagines the relationship between artificial enclosures and natural forces, reinforcing her sculptural language of immersive, entangled environments.
